Ephesians 1:1
The Book of Ephesians
Unpolished letters, prayers, and thoughts from my journals.
Ephesians 1:1a November 7th, 2023
This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Jesus Christ…
“Chosen” – He often says we are “chosen.” God knows us personally and he chooses us for His purpose. Like I might choose which of my paintings I am going to send to which person. So, he created us, then chose us, according to His Will.
Paul knows he was chosen and what he was chosen for. To be an apostle. An apostle is a “messenger” or one “who is sent.” A “Disciple” is a “student” or “learner” -According to Study.com
So, this is why I hear the words in church “We are all disciples of Jesus Christ.” We are all “Learners” of his teachings, But I think you must truly desire and strive to want to learn from Jesus and follow him. Are we all apostles? Not necessarily. Missionaries must be apostles for they are sent to teach the gospel. Pastors must be apostles. But are they all sent? We should all spread the Gospel… But no – We are not- all apostles. Jesus carefully taught and trained his “12” to become apostles. So, at the church we also should prayerfully equip those called to move from disciple to Apostle. Of course, we will always be disciples even if we become an apostle… but we can be a disciple and not be an apostle.
So, do I know what God has chosen me for? And I can I bodly proclaim it? Am I chosen to be… Apostle? Musician? Artist? Perhaps I’m chosen to be an Apostle, but to also use music and art to further that call. I don’t feel very equipped to share the teachings of Jesus Christ--- but the TRUTH is… that is what I’m always doing and the TRUTH is – so many have become disciples of Jesus. So, if God can use someone like me to spread His words. He can use anyone!
You have to be willing, but not necessarily overly educated. I don’t have any training. I have no vast knowledge of the scriptures. I don’t read the Bible every day, and I have no idea if I have ever read the whole of the Bible. Though I have truly tried hard- I cannot know how to memorize scripture just as I struggle to remember song lyrics. So, you see I am ill equipped. Yet he has chosen me, and I will say “Yes” and God rejoices to see the work began and I can continue to grow in my knowledge of Him but trust Him to use me “Right Where I Am.”
